You may encounter unexpected conditions in a construction zone. For the safety of yourself, other drivers, and construction workers, drive with extraordinary caution.

Use your low beam headlights when driving in fog, rain, or snow. High beam lights can reflect off the weather conditions, lowering visibility even more.

A five-sided sign is used to alert drivers to a school zone. Some pentagonal signs specifically indicate crosswalks within school zones where children or other pedestrians may be present.

Arkansas law requires motorists to move over for approaching police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances using their sirens and flashing lights. Drivers should pull over to the right edge of the road, or as near to the right edge as possible. If you are in an intersection, drive through the intersection before pulling over.

Only use your horn when it is necessary to avoid collisions. Do not use your horn if a driver or bicyclist is moving slowly and you want him or her to drive faster or get out of your way.

Rather than stopping (as you would when entering other roads), you must use the merging or acceleration lane to speed up and smoothly merge with fast-moving traffic already on the interstate.

If you try to insert your vehicle between a turning truck or bus and a curb, you may suffer a serious crash. To avoid a collision, do not turn until the truck or bus has completed its turn.

To avoid the need for last-minute braking or turning, look down the road at least 15 seconds ahead of your vehicle. This will allow you to see upcoming hazards on the roadway and will give you enough time to make safe decisions. Tailgating a truck, or any vehicle, is dangerous because you take away your own cushion of safety if the vehicle in front of you stops quickly.

If your vehicle enters a skid, you should take your foot off of the brake and steer in the direction that you want to go. For example, if the rear of your vehicle is skidding to the left, you should steer to the left. This will help bring the front of the vehicle in line with the rear, thereby straightening out the vehicle's overall direction.

White lines separate lanes of traffic moving in the same direction. You may cross a dashed white line to pass or change lanes if it is safe to do so.

On multilane roads, the left-most lane is intended to be used for passing. Never pass another vehicle by using the shoulder of a road, whether the shoulder is paved or not. Other drivers will never expect you to be there and may pull off the road and into your vehicle without looking.

A traffic signal displaying a flashing yellow light indicates that you should be alert and proceed with caution. Slow down when approaching a flashing yellow traffic signal.

Signs with a red circle and diagonal line over a black symbol indicate that the action represented by the symbol is prohibited. In this case, the sign indicates that left turns are prohibited.

When parking uphill on a road that does not have a curb, your front wheels should be turned to the right (toward the edge of the road). This will ensure that the vehicle will roll off of the road if the brakes fail.
