On rainy, snowy, or foggy days, it may be difficult for other drivers to see your vehicle. Under these conditions, headlights make your vehicle easier to see. If the weather requires you to turn on your windshield wipers, you must also turn on your low beam headlights.

When a protected turn arrow changes from green to yellow, drivers must prepare to yield to oncoming traffic. A yellow arrow indicates that the protected left turn is ending.

Regulatory signs inform drivers of specific laws that must be obeyed. Displayed laws may be about traffic direction, lane use, turning, speed, parking, or special situations. Regulatory signs are commonly white squares or rectangles with black, red, or green letters or symbols.

Drivers should be alert to the presence of crossing guards when near a school and must always obey their instructions.

When it is difficult to see due to darkness or poor weather, increase your following distance. This will give you more time to react to hazards that you may not see in advance.

Drivers should check their rearview mirrors often to stay aware of the position of traffic behind them.

If possible, try to only deal with one roadway hazard at a time. If you want to pass a pedestrian but an oncoming vehicle is approaching, slow down and let the vehicle pass. You may then pass the pedestrian if it is safe to do so.

Prior to changing lanes, you must check for existing traffic in the lane you want to enter. Identify a four- to five-second gap in traffic, activate your turn signal, and check your blind spot in the direction of the lane change. Adjust your speed and steer into the next lane. Be aware of other vehicles trying to enter the same lane.

At a stop sign, you must come to a full stop and check for traffic in all directions before proceeding.
