If a passenger is drunk and disruptive, you are still responsible for their safety. They should be discharged in a safe location, which may be the next scheduled stop or another well-lit area where other people are present.

The leading cause of injury and death in roadway work zones is excessive speed by passing drivers. Lower your speed when driving through a work zone.

When a vehicle's drive wheels have poor traction, the use of a retarder may cause them to skid. A retarder should be turned off when a vehicle is being driven under wet, icy, or snowy conditions.

Backing is always dangerous because it is impossible to see everything that is behind your vehicle. Only drive in reverse if it is absolutely necessary.

All commercial motor vehicles are required to be equipped with the proper emergency equipment. This may include spare electrical fuses; three red reflective triangles, six fuses, or three liquid burning flares; and at least one properly charged and rated fire extinguisher.

All commercial motor vehicles must carry appropriate emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers.

Be sure to activate the appropriate turn signal well in advance of a turn or lane change. Signal continuously throughout the turn and make sure to cancel the signal after the turn is completed, if your vehicle doesn't have self-canceling signals.

Driving in fog is always dangerous and should be avoided entirely if at all possible. If you must drive in fog, be sure to turn on your low beam headlights and fog lights, even during the daytime.

Strong winds can make it difficult for a driver to maintain control of their vehicle. Usually, this is especially true for drivers of lighter CMVs.

Your truck may block the views of drivers behind you, making them unaware of any upcoming hazards that require you to stop. For this reason, it is a good idea to flash your brakes and warn other drivers before slowing or stopping.
