When entering a public highway from an alley, private road, or driveway, you must yield to traffic already on the roadway. Enter traffic when it is safe to do so.

Do not stop on an acceleration ramp or lane when entering an interstate highway. Look for a gap in traffic and adjust your speed to meet traffic. Remember that traffic on the interstate has the right-of-way.

This one-way sign indicates that traffic flows only in the direction of the arrow.

Your vehicle's brake lights indicate to other drivers that you are slowing down or stopping. Your brake lights should always be in working order when you are driving on any roadway.

Locations where parking is prohibited include within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, and within 50 feet of the nearest rail at a rail crossing. Only park where it is legal and safe to do so.

This triangular sign is a "Yield" sign. When you see this sign, you must slow down to check for traffic and yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and approaching cross traffic. Stop only if it is necessary to do so.

You should use low beam headlights when driving in fog, rain, or snow.

You should never pass if there is an oncoming vehicle in the passing lane, if your view is blocked by a curve or hill, at an intersection, before or on a railroad crossing or bridge, or in any other no passing zone. Unless you are on the opposite side of a multilane roadway with a median or shared center turn lane, you may not pass a stopped school bus that has its flashing red lights activated.

Before changing lanes, you should activate your turn signal in the appropriate direction and check your rearview and side mirrors. Look over your shoulder in the direction you plan to move in order to check your blind spot and check the far lane to be sure no one else is trying to enter the same lane as you. Change lanes when you are sure it is safe to do so.

West Virginia requires a yearly inspection of all vehicles to ensure they are in safe driving condition.

If a driver's left arm and hand are extended downward, they are indicating that they intend to stop. Adjust your driving accordingly if following a driver who is using this hand signal.

If you are being followed by an emergency vehicle that is not using its siren or flashing lights, you do not need to clear a path. Continue driving in a normal manner.

For drivers age 21 or older, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08 percent or higher. Driving while under the influence of alcohol is not only illegal, but dangerous.

Consuming any type of alcohol can have negative effects on your reflexes and judgment. It does not matter which type of alcohol is consumed, only how much alcohol has entered a person's bloodstream.

Pennant-shaped signs usually indicate no passing zones. Text will also be on the sign to confirm that it is a no passing zone.

If you miss your turn or exit, do not back up, but go on to the next turn or exit where you can safely turn around. It is illegal to back up on a shoulder or a freeway.

When driving on wet roads, drivers should increase their following distance.

Under ideal driving conditions, you should maintain a following distance of at least three to four seconds. If roads are slippery, your following distance should never be less than four seconds. Any time conditions are less than perfect, you should increase your following distance.
